Demolition of Former Atlantic City High School

Bally’s Park Place/Hilton Hotel
ADLER
was selected by Park Place Entertainment Corporation to
provide environmental and engineering
services associated
with the demolition of the former Atlantic City High School
and construction of a new
employee/valet overflow parking lot.
The four (4) story school and gym building had occupied
an entire
city block (~4 acres) and had been vacant for a few
years. Despite
the failing condition of the building, the
demolition of the school received media
attention and created political controversy.
For
the demolition activities, ADLER provided the following
services:
·
Environmental assessment of the building and property.
·
Asbestos and lead based paint survey.
·
Preparation of environmental abatement and remediation
specifications.
·
Oversight of underground storage tank removal.
·
Design and monitoring of soil remediation and groundwater
investigation activities.
·
Reporting to and coordination with the NJDEP.
·
Cost and time analysis of implosion versus conventional
demolition methods.
·
Preparation of building demolition via conventional methods
and site restoration specifications and
Bid Manual.
·
Preparation of site survey, demolition plans, post-demolition
grading plans, and soil erosion/sediment control plans and
details.
·
Acquisition of County Soil Erosion and Sediment Control
permit.
·
Bid evaluation and assistance with contractor selection.
·
Bid and construction administration services through
demolition activities.
For
The site development activities, ADLER provided the following
services:
·
Full civil site engineering design and plans.
·
Design of layout of access controlled lot and evaluation of
ingress/egress routes, circulation, and pedestrian access.
(Special design consideration was taken with the entrance/exit
locations and lighting patterns due to the proximity of
neighboring residences)
·
Design of site grading, drainage, utility, lighting, soil
erosion measures, and reconstruction of approximately 50
linear feet of the City’s storm-water collection system.
·
Design of mechanical storm-water treatment system (Vortechnics
system) to obtain NJDEP-CAFRA implemented water quality
requirements.
·
Coordination with City and traffic consultant for traffic
signal improvements and reconstruction
·
Acquisition of County and City permits and approvals.
·
Expert testimony at both the City Planning and Zoning Boards.
Ethel

Piscataway Board of Education
Piscataway,
NJ
ADLER was selected by the Piscataway Board of Education
to provide environmental and engineering services
associated with the demolition of the “White
Building”, a former military equipment/tank
maintenance building.
The building was slated to be demolished due to
environmental conditions, failing integrity, and to
enable future building construction by the Board of
Education.
For the demolition activities,
ADLER provided the following services:

Environmental assessment of the building and property.
·
Asbestos survey and analysis.
·
Survey and analysis of microbiological matter (pigeon feces).
·
Preparation of environmental abatement and remediation
specifications.
·
Preparation of building demolition via conventional methods
and site restoration specifications.
·
Preparation of site demolition plan, post-demolition grading
plan (including limited site improvements), and soil
erosion/sediment control plans and details.
